This weekend, Artist of the Weekend welcomes Bulgaria's true pioneer of electronic and computer music — Simo Lazarov.
Composer, performer, educator and innovator, Lazarov has spent more than five decades exploring the relationship between music, technology and sound. In 1973, he founded Bulgaria’s first Electronic Music Studio at Bulgarian National Radio, creating a space where new technologies and experimental approaches could shape an entirely new musical language.
His career has taken him from Sofia and Prague to Bratislava, Paris and the United States, including studies at the renowned IRCAM in Paris. Over the years, he has created hundreds of compositions, albums and multimedia projects, while also playing a major role in developing computer music education in Bulgaria.
But behind the pioneering work and the impressive career is an artist with a lifelong curiosity about where music can go next.
In this special edition of **Artist of the Weekend**, Simo Lazarov talks about his journey, the early days of electronic music, the relationship between technology and creativity, and his vision for the future of sound.
Discover the story, ideas, and music of Bulgaria’s electronic music pioneer — Simo Lazarov — this weekend on Artist of the Weekend.
To complement the story, Simo Lazarov’s music has been specially curated and mixed by our friend, DJ and producer Getsu.
The exclusive mix starts at 18:00 GMT on our Ambient channel.
