The RvS Weekender 2016

when: 20 Aug 2016, start: 12:00 - 21 Aug 2016, end: 23:00 where: United Kingdom, London, pin A secluded lakeside location in Kent (1 hour from London)

ARTISTS:

Having started his DJ career in Spain, and in the humble surroundings of many a local bar, the nineties were spent learning the basic skills so often lacking in today’s break-through ‘DJs’. Eventually catching the ear of someone that mattered, Arnout began playing more familiar outposts like DC: 10 and Pin Up in Ibiza, Dance Valley in Amsterdam and Circo Loco in London, for whom he has been resident for the last few years. On top of that, his finely sequenced journeys through all things house have also won him a residency at London’s definitive Sunday session, Fuse, as well as gigs at fabric.
A pure passion for 4/4 (which has been burning ever since first hearing House Sounds of Chicago albums in the mid eighties) naturally lead Alex to begin experimenting with his beloved sound in the studio. Over the course of the last decade, the fruits of said labours have been bountiful: there have been releases alongside Daz I Kue from Bugs in the Attic; with an old school friend by the name of Leiam Sullivan as Ceramix (with whom he remixed Peace Division and Low End Specialists and earned a No.1 on Pete Tong’s Essential Buzz chart with 'Can You Dance?') and more recently under his given name on Adam Shelton and Subb-an’s fast-rising Brum label, One Records. The track was 'Vanishing Point' - a prowling deep house record lapped up by the likes of Visionquest that is indicative of his analogue aesthetic overall.
Aiming simply to “make great music”, there have also been collabs with Jamie Jones and Clive Henry for the hotter-than-hot Hot Waves crew, whilst EPs for Composite and Vitalik and another collaborative effort with Clive - this time as Black to The Future - have also been confirmed and can be added to the myriad Arnout reworks included on the recent Rebel Rave compilation on Crosstown Rebels.

London born and bred Darren Roach has been an integral part of the UK club scene since the halcyon days of ’88. A veteran of London’s club scene at the age of 15 he was gracing the decks of (then) top London clubs such as MoS, Club UK, Gardening Club and The Limelight, quickly gaining recognition amongst his peers as one of the most technically advanced Djs of his generation

After-hour parties and big events have been a main source for Darren's musical output. Captivating a beautiful collection of friends and experiences, from which he embraced and most importantly learnt from. This knowledge would then go on to mould Darren's musical ability as a DJ to work a crowd. Throughout the last 15 years Darren had the pleasure of playing and supporting some of the world’s leading underground DJS and live including Carl Cox, Derek May, Juan Atkins, Kevin Sanderson, Masters at work, Front 242, Carl Craig live,

Darren Roach has travelled the globe and DJ’d at some of the world’ s best clubs and festivals in countries such as America, Australia, China, Russia, Turkey, Croatia, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Holland, Ukraine, Belgium, France, Spain, and Sweden playing in events like Dance Valley Amsterdam, Global Tendencies festival San Sebastian, Impulse outdoor festival Holland, Creamfields Istanbul, Taj Mahal Czech republic, The Millennium party in Sydney, DV Amnesia Ibiza, la Cova Barcelona, Sancho Panza(Carnival) Isle of MTV party Croatia and special events like Massive Attacks V.I.P After Party in Istanbul and Fabric London.

In 2002 Darren took on the role as Head of Press and Promotion at Intergroove UK. Plugging and pushing the underground sound to a bigger audience. Labels that broke to the fore purely because of the support that Darren gave them include: Get Physical, Moon Harbour, Morris audio, Connoisseur, Cocoon, Tuning Spork, Systematic, Great Stuff and Immigrant to name but a few...

In 2007 Darren Roach launches Electronic Body Movement - EBM - a new special night which has been kicking ass amongst the East London warehouse scene that was followed swiftly by residencies at Egg Club London and 54. With quality DJ line ups that have included some of the best underground DJ’s from across the globe. Artist such as Lee Burridge, Kenny Hawkes, Colin Dale,Pete Herbert (UK). Dan Curtin, Jan Eric Kaiser (Germany). Jerome Sydneham (USA), Raoul Belmans, DJ Prinz (Belgium) Jerome Pacman (France) have graced the decks of EBM.

EBM has gone onto gain out most respect from both the dance music industry and press culminating in September 2007 with a “covermount” mix CD for industry bible DJ Mag.

DJ Mag has described Darren Roach as "the Lord of Groove".....As an artist Darren has always looked for sounds that can only be described as different!!! But, this is where the special talents of Darren really come into play, by bringing in subliminal mixes of different styles and elements based around Electronic house, keeping crowds on their feet, and good feelings inside. Originality and Quality music is the key to Darren Roach's success.

As a vinyl junkie, I've been an ambassador for electronic music during a hedonistic 30 year career as a DJ at seminal clubs and events worldwide...

I've promoted, sold, recorded, lectured, played, collected, reviewed and breathed music since the age of 13, recorded numerous mix CD's both here in Europe and Asia including the first CD for Eukahouse's "Tech House Phenomena" series,
and worked pushing huge amounts of Vinyl at numerous record stores over the years - Groove, Zoom, Koobla, Silverfish (pre-Eukatech Records), Instant Quality aka I.Q. Records and Covert Records (Brighton)...

After taking a long needed sabbatical (2001-2009) from the DJ circuit, where I ended my long standing resident slots at Edinburgh's Subtle Logic, and The End's flagship party Subterrain - where myself and Mr.C's now infamous 4hr sessions
were witnessed every month until late 1999 - I've been busy twiddling knobs, trying to write a book, studying, got married, bought & sold a few houses, had two beautiful lil’ boys and made myself a family man!

For the last few years, I've been laying low working on various projects - building a new studio, writing some very deeeep shit, flying around the globe doing my thing, and now I'm in the process of setting up a very exciting new label...

I've been letting my record box get the better of me of late and started playing out with Vinyl again (there's soooo much good music out there!)...
I have come to regard myself as a serious music collector, who has acquired an immense record collection through the years, both as a club and radio DJ, and I've been lucky enough to travel all over the globe meeting some amazing friends and like minded people who share my knowledge, passion, respect and love for good music!

Some highlights:
Berlin's Love Parade, Tribal Gathering, Club F.B. (Toyko), Final Frontier @ Club UK, Club Rockets (Osaka), tons of BEDLAM - yes I'm that Murf - Spiral Tribe parties, Subterrain, Wiggle, Key-Energy, Castlemorten (Where's Reggie gone?), Eurobeat 2000 @ Turnmills, Yeeak! Mayday Party, Notting Hill Carnival, JuJu, Yellow, Queen's, Circle, Re:Verb, Animated, Bunker, Kitchen, Technology, Children Of Chaos, Desire, Sativae, Black Sheep, Twisted, TRIP, Heart & Soul, TEXAS, Knowledge, Subtle Logic, Tresor, etc...

I've played alongside shed loads of people - here's a few I've had the pleasure to party with:
Mr C., Sven Vath, Darren Emerson, Layo & Bushwacka!, Terry Francis, Dave Clarke, Dave Angel, Richie Hawtin, Joey Beltram, Roland Casper,
Roy Davis Jr., Damon Wild, HELL, The Advent, Jeff Mills, Robert Hood, Rolando, Styro 2000, Jungle Brothers, Marco Lenzi, Space DJ'z, D'julz, Get Fucked, Peach Boys, Asad Rizvi, Colin Dale, Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Thomas Heckmann, Carl Cox, F.S.O.L., Stacey Pullen, Hardfloor, Laurent Garnier, Eddie Richards, Tyree Cooper, Swayzak, K.U.D.O., KCC, Tony Humphries, Harvey, DJ Miku, Suburban Knight, you get the picture...

Tom Baker - With releases on Wiggle, Brique Rouge and Wrong Recordings, Tom’s low- slung bass-driven take on the underground sound has powered some of the world’s best festivals, clubs and parties.

Tom’s early ear was subliminally tuned in the late 80's when Tom discovered the London acid house scene. He’s been a true convert to the cause ever since, not just as a soldier of the underground, but one of the scene’s true green berets.

A humble C90 cassette tape, mailed into Mixmag’s bedroom DJ competition in 1994 submitted his obsession with warm, relentless, underground grooves. He beat over a thousand hopefuls to first place, enough to win him gigs at a string of high profile events. Seminal London clubs such as The Gallery at Turnmills, Bagley’s Film Studios and Ministry of Sound all booked him, but it was the crowd reaction to his innovative and eclectic sets that secured his reputation.

By 2000 there was a residency at Sound Architecture in Rotterdam and a non-stop itinerary of bookings all over Europe. Tom’s record box soon found its way around Asia and all over the Americas, and internet broadcasting via Pulse Radio with Natalie C helped him reach an even broader audience. The show ran every week for five years, played host to a talent roster that reads like a who’s who of the London scene, and included broadcasting live from the Winter Music Conference in Miami.

But big clubs and headline gigs are not Tom’s only accolade. His underground credentials have been honed through countless warehouse parties where those in the know vote with their feet. Uncompromisingly selective, Tom digs ever deeper for the real dance floor gems. That’s why the dance music glitterati from Fabric in London to Sonar in Vancouver have good reason to remember his name.

And underground legends such as Terry Francis and Asad Rizvi have conferred their own marque of distinction on Tom’s productions. His early collaborations with Lawrence Mohamed were signed to Wiggle, Wrong and Brique Rouge – seminal labels that have established tech-house as a global phenomenon through a succession of world-class releases.

Hear Tom in action behind the decks and you’ll find yourself immersed in a soundscape that’s impossible to ignore. His sets are always heartfelt, ever enticing and sometimes just downright filthy. Meet him at the bar you’ll be wowed by his knowledge, enthusiasm, warmth and wicked sense of humour. Book him to play and you’re assured of much more than tried and tested floor-fillers with all the usual drops and hooks. You’ll be teased by sounds that are the distillation of a thousand nights of sweat-drenched walls.

DETAILS:

RvS has always been about flora and fauna, so we thought it's about time we put together an event in the great outdoors. For the first RvS Weekender, we have teamed up with Electric Discotheque to create something truly special and intimate at a stunning lakeside, woodland sanctuary within an hour of London. There will be camping, stellar sound and scrumptious food on the site.

So tickets are now live for the Weekender and here are a few words about them:
We have decided not to charge an entry fee as this is a private event solely for friends and music lovers. We would like it to have the feel of a house party whilst surrounded by the beauty of a lake and forest. Our objective is to create the ultimate party love bubble for our favourite people with exquisitely good music, far away from the madding crowd.
The landowner has very generously given us free access to the land and his licence, thus making this possible.
However, there are costs — several thousand pounds of them — arising from the basic amenities that are required to put on a quality event, such as: good sound, lights, toilets, generator, marquees, and so forth. We have hired security for the duration of the event to ensure that you and your property are protected. If we were millionaires, we would love to cover these costs ourselves, but perhaps in another life ☺
The only thing we ask from every individual is some commitment — that being a deposit of £35 that can be used on site against drinks and food. We believe that in doing so, we can cover the costs of the event, whilst providing an affordable bar that is far cheaper than the drinks prices at any other festival or club. Beers, for example, will be charged at £3.50 each, doubles at £5.50. We also believe that the deposit acts as a filter against any persons who might want to come to a free event for the wrong reasons, expecting a free-for-all. The quality of crowd is of paramount importance to us.
The landowner has only asked for camping pitches to be covered at £30 per tent (not per person). This is to ensure that security can keep an eye on the camping area while you guys have fun.
Sadly, the license on the land does not allow for external booze to be brought in, and for glass bottles to be on site. We hope that everyone will respect and participate in these minor stipulations to help us in making this happen.
We hope this all makes sense. If so, we warmly invite you to join us in creating this unforgettable experience and sharing in the community spirit with which RvS Weekender has been founded.
